Welcome to Alonissos Museum
Alonissos Museum in Patitiri
The Alonissos Museum, founded in 2000 by Kostas and Angela Mavrikis, is the largest privately owned museum on any Greek island. In this four-storey building, located at a distance of only 30 meter from the harbour of Patitiri, Kostas and Angela gave place to the cultural inheritance of the island. In addition to historical items from Alonissos, the museum focuses on weapons and objects used in the early days by the pirates of the Aegean Sea.
To complete the image of this beautiful stone-built building, every storey is forseen from marble sculptures and paintings of artists who visited or lived on the island respectively still live there.
Alonissos visualized in 13 unique watercolors and oil paintings
- Published 29 August 2013
As a result of the success of last year's fund raising with the FOAM 2013 wall calendar, we will give it a follow-up this year. The subject of the 2014-calendar will be the Alonissos art work of the internationally known American painter, Larry Rink, who has had his painting studio in Milia Bay for over 40 years. He documented this period of Alonissos history in many beautiful artworks expressing his love of the nature, sea, history and people of Alonissos.
His visual talent is recognized by leading art collections, major museum directors and art critics.
He has agreed that FOAM could use his work to raise funds for the Alonissos Museum. We have selected 13 works (one for the cover and one for each month) that capture the unique spirit of the island (see illustration of 4 sample pages of the calendar at the bottom of this article).
The planned size of this years' calendar is A3-landscape (42cm wide x 30cm long). This is bigger than the A4 size (30cm wide x 21cm long) of last years' calendar, but we chose this format so the paintings will appear at their best. In this way you acquire 13 beautiful large-format reproductions of the art work of Mr. Rink ready for framing if you like.
Each calendar will be packed in a sturdy shipping carton and in case you order more than one calendar the cartons are packed separately so you can use them for posting calendars to your relatives or friends. I trust the calendar will be ready by the end of October and will be delivered to you then or in the beginning of November.
Nevertheless, we can imagine that the A-4 format is more suitable in case you have only little wall space available and really want to support us by buying one or more calendars. Determining where you will hang your wall calendar helps you decide what size you want.
What we should like you to do is to let us know whether you prefer the A3-size or the A4-size or maybe a combination of the two sizes; e.g. 3 calendars A3 and 2 calendars A4.
What we also need to know is how many you should like to receive. In this way we will be able to ask for a quotation from a printer for a certain number to print. Of course the more we can order the less the costs.
Your reply does not oblige you to anything. It is just to make sure that we do not spend FOAM-Money on a goal that does not bring reasonable enough profit.
So please reply as soon as possible! Preferably on our email address: email@example.com.
Then we will be able to inform you on prices and how to order.
Please note: this is not just a calendar for one year, it is actually a portfolio of 13 frameable art works that will retain their value for years to come, and extra copies would make an exceptional gift to like-minded friends and relatives.
